who am i?

am i african? am i american? cause it can't be both.

i have no connection to africa. all of that history was erased.

i sacrifice my life for this country and come home to harassment & brutality.

this uniform doesn't matter, this rank doesn't matter.

so does this flag really matter? 

i mean it has to because if we don't stand for it than our careers are over.

but if we do stand for it than our lives are over.

do i love myself if i fight for this country? 

am i a self-respecting black man?

did slavery really end?

cause me and my people are still bound mentally in these chains.
